Yahoo News’ April 17, 2017 story about Maggie Selmeski and her journey to treat intractable epilepsy with medical marijuana is a touching reminder about the real world importance of cannabis legalization.
Writer Jennifer Gerson Uffalussy describes the Selmeski family as “medical marijuana refugees”, who were driven from Tennessee to Colorado in order to treat their four year-old’s seizures with prescription cannabis. The public needs to learn that non-psychoactive forms of marijuana, such as CBD, have been developed to provide medical benefit without any of the “high” effects that recreational users seek. These forms of cannabis are crucial to treating illness in children and require additional research for funding in order to really break through.
